Brake Repair Dubai

Warning Signs Your Brakes Need Attention

  • Squealing when you brake, a high sound that was not there before
  • Grinding, a harsh metal sound when braking
  • The brake pedal or steering wheel vibrates or pulses when you brake
  • The car pulls to one side under braking
  • The pedal feels soft or spongy, or goes lower than it used to
  • The brake warning light or ABS light is on
  • The car needs a longer distance to stop than it used to
  • You can see the brake pads look thin through the wheel, or the fluid level is dropping

Stop Driving and Call Us If You Notice These

  • Grinding that sounds like metal on metal on every stop
  • The brake pedal sinks almost to the floor
  • A red brake warning light together with a soft pedal
  • The car pulls hard to one side when braking
  • Brake fluid leaking near a wheel

Brake work needs a lift and proper inspection, so brake repair is a workshop job, not a roadside one. If the car does not feel safe to drive, do not drive it. Call us and we will advise you on the safest next step.

A Full Brake System Check, Not Just Pads

Many brake problems are blamed on pads when the real fault sits elsewhere in the system. Our inspection covers the whole system:

  • Brake pads: thickness, even wear, and condition on every wheel
  • Brake discs: thickness, scoring, warping, and heat damage
  • Calipers: sticking, uneven pressure, and leaking seals
  • Brake fluid: level, condition, and moisture content
  • Hoses and lines: cracks, swelling, and leaks
  • ABS and electronic parking brake: warning lights, sensors, and system scan where needed

You hear the findings before any work starts, with the worn parts shown to you. If only the pads are worn, only the pads are changed. Routine brake checks are also part of a full service on our car maintenance page.

Brake Pads and Discs: How Wear Is Judged

There is no single kilometre number that tells you when pads or discs are finished. Wear depends on the car, the parts fitted, city traffic, and driving style. Dubai driving is hard on brakes: constant stop-start traffic, heavy cars, and high road temperatures all add wear.

That is why we judge brakes by inspection, not by a promised number. Pads are measured for remaining thickness, discs are measured against the maker’s minimum thickness, and both are checked for uneven wear and heat damage. If a pad or disc still has safe life left, we tell you that too, and note when to check it again.

Disc Skimming or New Discs?

If a disc is warped or lightly scored but still thick enough, skimming (resurfacing) can restore a smooth face and remove pedal vibration. If the disc is at or below its minimum thickness, cracked, or badly heat-damaged, skimming is not safe and a new disc is the right answer. We measure first and explain which option your discs need and why, before you decide. Skimming a disc that is already too thin is a saving we will not make, because it puts your braking at risk.

Brake Fluid: The Part Many Drivers Forget

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, and moisture lowers its boiling point. In Dubai heat and heavy traffic, old fluid can boil under hard braking, which makes the pedal go soft at the worst moment. A brake fluid flush replaces the old fluid through the whole system. If your pedal feels spongy, or you do not know when the fluid was last changed, ask us to test it. Fluid condition is checked as part of every brake inspection.

ABS and Electronic Parking Brake (EPB)

Modern cars rely on ABS to stop safely in an emergency and on an electronic parking brake instead of a hand lever. An ABS warning light, a parking brake that will not release or hold, or uneven braking can all point to sensor, module, or caliper faults. These need a proper system scan and testing, which we carry out at the workshop before recommending any parts. Deeper electrical faults are covered on our car electrical repair page and engine diagnostics page.

Bedding-In: The First Kilometres After New Brakes

New pads and discs need a short bedding-in period to mate properly. For the first few hundred kilometres, brake gently where you can, avoid repeated hard stops, and do not hold the pedal down hard at a stop while the brakes are very hot. Done properly, bedding-in gives even pad wear, quiet braking, and full stopping power. We explain the simple steps when you collect the car.

How Brake Repair Works at Our Workshop

  1. Tell us the symptoms. Call or WhatsApp with your car model and what you hear or feel.
  2. Full inspection. Pads, discs, calipers, fluid, hoses, and warning lights checked at the workshop.
  3. Findings and cost confirmed. You see what is worn, hear your options, and approve the cost before work starts.
  4. Repair and road test. Parts fitted, fluid set correctly, brakes bedded and tested before the car is handed back.

What Affects the Cost of Brake Repair

Brake repair costs change with the car and the parts, so we confirm the exact cost after inspection instead of listing fixed prices. The main factors are which parts are worn (pads only, or discs and calipers as well), whether the discs can be skimmed or need replacing, the part specification for your model, and whether ABS or EPB work is needed. You always approve the cost before any work starts. If your brakes failed together with another fault, our car repair page covers the wider repair service.

Why Drivers Choose Expert Car Repair Dubai

  • Whole system checked. We find the real fault, not just the loudest symptom.
  • Measured, not guessed. Pad and disc decisions are based on thickness and condition.
  • Skimming only when safe. If a disc is too thin, we say so and explain why.
  • Nothing fitted without your approval. Findings and cost confirmed first.
  • Road tested after. Brakes are tested before the car leaves the workshop.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between squealing and grinding brakes?

Squealing is usually an early warning. It can come from the pad wear indicators touching the disc, from dust, or from pads that are getting low. Grinding is more serious: it often means the pad material is gone and metal is touching metal, which damages the disc quickly. Squealing means book a check soon. Grinding means get the car checked now and drive as little as possible until then.

Can I keep driving with grinding brakes?

It is not safe to keep driving on grinding brakes. Stopping distances grow, the discs get damaged, and a worn-out pad can fail completely. If the pedal also feels soft or the car pulls to one side, do not drive the car at all. Call us and we will advise you on the safest next step.

How do you decide between disc skimming and new discs?

We measure the disc thickness and check its condition. If the disc is above the maker’s minimum thickness and only warped or lightly scored, skimming can restore it. If it is at or below the minimum, cracked, or heat-damaged, new discs are the safe answer. We show you the measurements and explain the decision before any work starts.

Why does my brake pedal pulse or vibrate when I brake?

A pulsing pedal usually means a disc is warped or has uneven thickness, so the pads grip and release as the wheel turns. Heat and heavy braking make it worse over time. The fix depends on the disc measurements: skimming if the disc is thick and healthy enough, or new discs if it is not.

Why does my car pull to one side when braking?

Pulling under braking often means one side is braking harder than the other. Common causes are a sticking caliper, uneven pad wear, a damaged hose, or a tyre problem. It is a safety issue because the car does not stop straight, so it should be inspected promptly at the workshop.

My brake warning light is on. What does it mean?

A brake warning light can mean low brake fluid, worn pads with a wear sensor, a handbrake or parking brake issue, or an ABS fault. If the light is red and the pedal feels soft, do not drive the car. If the car brakes normally but the light stays on, book an inspection soon and drive gently until then.

If my pads are changed, does the brake fluid need changing too?

Not always at the same time, but the fluid should be tested. Brake fluid absorbs moisture as it ages, and old fluid can make the pedal feel soft under hard braking. We check the fluid condition during every brake job and tell you honestly whether a flush is needed now or can wait.

How long does brake repair take?

It depends on what the inspection finds. Pads alone are a smaller job than pads, discs, and a caliper together. We carry out the inspection first, then confirm exactly what is needed and how long it will take before starting, so you can plan your day around a clear answer.
